Last February 6, Blocto hosted a community meet-up with the Aptos team as part of the Aptos World Tour. We welcomed builders and crypto developers from Taipei and around the world to talk about all things Aptos. The event featured Aptos’s Wolfgang Grieskamp and David Wolinsky, alongside Blocto’s own Hao Chang and Hsuan Lee, as speakers and panelists. Read on below for some of the key insights from their talks!

David Wolinsky, Aptos’s Lead Engineer

David Wolinsky, Aptos’s Lead Engineer, spoke about Aptos’ aim to create universal and fair access to decentralized assets for billions of people. He discussed some of the Layer 1 blockchain’s core design decisions, the first being Move language as the smart contract platform for a safe Web3 that avoids resource duplication, double spending, and unintended destruction. Wolinsky also touted both upgradability and configurability as first-class design principles to embrace both new use cases and new technology.

Hsuan Lee, Blocto’s co-founder and CEO

Hsuan Lee, Blocto’s co-founder and CEO, discussed Blocto Wallet’s strengths in creating a frictionless onboarding experience for Web3, especially on Aptos. Lee highlighted Blocto’s multi-sig, key rotation, and fee subsidization features for native accounts on Aptos, and differentiated the wallet’s custodial and non-custodial modes—users start with the former but have the option to switch to the latter if they want to. He also demonstrated how easy it is to integrate with Blocto Wallet, either through the Aptos Wallet Adapter or directly through Blocto SDK. Aptos projects and devs can easily provide a seamless Web3 experience in as little as two hours!

Wolfgang Grieskamp, Aptos’s Lead Move Engineer

Wolfgang Grieskamp, Aptos’s Lead Move Engineer, led the audience into a deep dive of Move. He outlined Move’s design goals: (1) data safety via a modern ownership model, (2) simplicity over sophistication, (3) basis on bytecode virtual machine, and (4) well-defined formal semantics. Grieskamp also detailed the Move storage models for data and code, as well as Aptos’s support for autonomous accounts, among others.

During the tech panel, the panelists spoke about their experiences building with Move, and spoke about their excitement for further innovations that will come in the future. Afterwards, attendees enjoyed a networking session and got into more in-depth discussions with each other. It’s an exciting time for the Aptos ecosystem and the Blocto community right now, so watch this space for more news and insights!
